Artichoke with P.D.O. Benicarló

Every year in in January Benicarló celebrates their Artichoke Festival (this has been declared an Autonomous Festival of Tourist Interest). The Benicarló artichoke with its certificate of origin since 1998 is the star of an extensive programme of activities. Among which we can highly recommend Special days in honour of Brochettes with Artichokes from Benicarló in bars around the city, and where you can try different creations at prices to suit all pockets.
There is also the popular artichoke “torrà” (barbecue), one of the biggest attractions where up to 3,000 kilos of artichokes are barbecued. Or there is the traditional Gastronomic Demonstration where restaurants from Benicarló and the region delight the locals and visitors with lots of dishes created with the star product from Benicarló vegetable gardens, the artichoke. Special days in honour of the Artichoke are celebrated during the weeks following this celebration, and restaurants in the city offer their customers succulent, creative dishes all using the delicious artichoke.
In recent years, the range of activities on offer has increased considerably, among these, guided tours, the Art&Xoc Reggae festival of music and culture, the Sailing Regatta, the ‘Volta a Peu pels Aljubs’ running race, the Fair of local Gastronomic Produce or the Half Marathon, among others.
