Seaside Warehouse

The Seaside Warehouse is a symbol of the intense commercial activity in Benicarló as a central exporter of Carlón Wine, between the end of the eighteenth and beginning of the nineteenth centuries. In Cristo del Mar Street there were lots of industrial warehouses for storing this wine which was then exported throughout the world, in fact, Carlón wine was said to contain medicinal properties due to its high level of alcohol (between 16% and 17%).
It is an irregular shape with a gable roof, and comprises one storeroom facing north-east/south-west.
On the front of the building in Cristo del Mar Street, engraved over the front door, is an inscription dating back to 1757, which is probably the year when construction was finished. Since 2004 it has been owned by the town council, and at present it is used for cultural events such as conferences, concerts, exhibitions and so on.
