Traditional dances

Although popular, traditional dances have never disappeared completely from Benicarló, in 2011 a group called ‘Danzas de la Sotà’ were formed and in just a few years they have recuperated much of this heritage and made it more visible.
There are special ‘jotas’, ‘boleros’, ‘fandangos’ and ‘square dances’. In Benicarló there are wonderful dances such as the ‘Calle del Carmen dance’, ‘la jota del Pebret’, the ‘San Antonio dance’, typical Benicarló “camaraes”, the dance of Carmen and dances in parades like the “Betes, Arquets i Gitanetes i Bastons”.
During the year it is also possible to enjoy all of these dances with traditional Valencian clothes at events like the Corpus, festivals in Carmen or Santa Bárbara Street, the 9th October festival, gatherings when other groups from other towns or regions join in, or Patron Saint festivals with events like processions in honour of patron saints, a dance show or the popular town festival dance where everyone can join in.
