Festivals in August

The popular August festivals are dedicated to the town’s patron saints; saint Bartholomew, the Virgin of the Sea, Saint Abden and Saint Senen, and take place over ten days with lots of activities and celebratory events in which the townspeople of Benicarló along with visitors participate.
Throughout the week there are lots of different events like “la Cridà” from the Town-hall balcony with a Fireworks display, the refreshing water and foam fight in the streets, nights with the band playing in the open air, the popular ‘sobaquillo’ supper, the parade of floats and confetti fight.
Popular culture is also one of the local symbols of Benicarló, where the stars are the ‘giants’ and ‘bigheads’, the “dolçaina” and “tabalet”, dances and traditional music or big band music with the Saint Bartolomé serenade.
Fairs and markets also play a big role in the programme of celebrations with Candem Blo promoting urban culture, the Mediaeval Market in the old quarter, and other cultural events carried out by different local associations.
The bullfighting week is another celebration featuring events like Bulls on the beach, the cattle entering and the flaming horns Bull Run.
