The Sailor’s Museum

The Sailor’s Museum is located in the old town lighthouse, and The Benicarló Sailor’s Museum is located in the old lighthouse, and aims to make people aware of seafarers as a cultural asset and to give the value deserved to the different professions and seafaring tradition.
By creating this museum, we hope to compile an inventory, identify, preserve and transmit the cultural legacy that the town’s maritime and fishing heritage represents; a characteristic feature of Benicarló since its origin.
There are different exhibition areas inside the Sailor’s Museum which focus on: the maritime history of Benicarló, the history of the lighthouse, old siling equipment, marketing fish, different types of fish, fish which is marketed in Benicarló, traditional trades and professions involved with the sea (net repairers, caulkers, merchant marines and fishermen), the current fishing industry and gastronomy.
